lag in game need help on how to fix (if possible without buying a new computer) (2) lag in game need help on how to fix (if possible without buying a new computer)

Sometimes when i play the game it runs smooth but other time it lags a little and then sometimes really bad. i've lowered everything in the options menu, deleted a lot of things off my computer, defragged my computer. it still happens

anyone know any ways to reduce the lag in the game? (im planning on buying a new computer when i get the money but i still wanna find a way to reduce the lag until then)

Windows: vista home premium (service pack 2)
    Rating: 3.0
    Memory(RAM): 1.00GB
    System type: 32-bit operating system

LOTR:O isn't extremely hard on computers compared to many other recent games. Myself, I'll get upwards of 150 when I only get around 20 in several other games.

If you open the FPS meter thing with Ctrl+F, keep an eye on that and try and find out what areas you have the problem with.

Additionally, close as many background applications as possible. If you're confident, open the task manager as well and see if there is anything running that you can close temporarily. Anti-virus software -can- negatively affect the performance sometimes, but I won't recommend closing those if you can avoid it. There are also some applications available that can help free up memory and close un-needed background processes for you, but I'm not sure of this forums policy on such matters so you'll have to find them yourself.

Also- Do you know what your video card is, if you have one at all? I see that you only have one GB of ram, which is rather low.

Unfortunately you're computer seems to be fairly outdated by now. While I can't claim to be an expert, a brief google search tells me that the GeForce 6100 is an integrated graphics card which means, as the name suggests, that it is part of your motherboard rather then an independent 'card' which are typically far more powerful.

Other then lowering the settings as much as possible you're gonna likely have to upgrade to see an increase in performance.

Have you tried lowering the resolution as well, though?

I used this tool to defrag the game file only. Played a bit on low spec system feb-march and it's not a pleasant experience.

Is everything set to absolute minimum in graphics? Advanced too, I mean.

I also recall having some serious problems after we remodeled a room - got dust clogging up the fans. Cleaned them and had a smoother ride (it had gone so far I kept getting wierd blue-screens tho, so unsure if that applies here).

Do you play any other game that does run better? Just to get an idea of performance comparison.

is it normal for the datdefrag to open up for like half a second and close? does that meant the defrag worked or it didnt?

You need to extract it into the "C:\Program Files\Turbine\The Lord of the Rings Online" folder. It may overwrite a file or two- That is normal. You probably need to be on an administrator account to do this.

Once it is in there, double click on the 'datdefrag.exe'. It should open a relatively boring looking black window reminiscent of the old MS-DOS if you are familiar with that.

What it will do is go through each of the .dat files, which are large files in the LOTRO directory that store the information of the game. What it is doing is making sure that these files aren't all- Well, without going into what fragmentation is, its to make it simple it makes sure they're dandy and good to go. Sometimes after updates they can get a bit unorganized and such. As it goes through these files, it will list information on them. If it needed to be defragmented, or if they were alright as they were.

If this doesn't help, I will suggest making sure drivers and windows itself is up to date, though I won't give detailed instructions on how to do those- It's far too difficult for me to describe over plain text, though I'm sure a simple Google search will give you some help.

its extracted to the right place but how long does it usually take my command prompt pops up for a slit second and closes. im thinking of taking everything out of the folder and seeing if that does any good.

cause i ran the game earlier and the FPS stayed around 18-24 and dropped between 0-14 every time it lagged

UPDATE: I've took everything out of the folder and put it inside the lord of the rings file place and it seems to be defragging it. ill open the game up alter and check.
